Shrine Circus

Tonight we're heading to the Shrine Circus in La Porte.  I could go on and on about the Shriners, the fantastic work they do, etc.  But their circus is always great and the price of admission goes to so many worthy causes.

I'm looking forward to it and hope to have some fantastic photographs for you to enjoy!

Holiday Season 2008

It's almost the start of a new year.  Hard to believe that 2008 is almost history.  I haven't been busy with my photography the past 6-8 weeks as it's been deer hunting season.  This time every year I substitute my camera for my bow and gun.  Season ends January 4th so the camera will come out of hibernation.

Plans are in the making for new and exciting photographs in 2009.  I think you'll like what you see.

There are some winter festivals and things to see & do in La Porte county and some great ones coming up in January.  Visit La Porte County Visitor Bureau and check their calendar.  I plan on being at many of them with camera in hand.  La Porte county has so much to offer!

That's it for now.  Back later....

Autumn colors...

Autumn colors are just coming to light.  I've been keeping an eye on the leaves and it won't be long before this color extravaganza will be in full display.

I've been thinking of different ideas to photograph the colors this season.  It's like shooting a wedding, you only get one chance so don't blow it.  I want to show how beautiful La Porte county can be in the fall.

I'll only have somewhere around a 3 week window to capture all the changing colors.

That's it for now.  More later....

Scarecrow Fest 2008

There is a small town named Wanatah, Indiana.  It's only about 18 miles from here and this weekend they had their annual Scarecrow Fest.  What a wonderful festival.  It had the typical food and craft vendors showing their wares, pony rides for the kids, some small carnival rides as well.

Going to a small town festival like Scarecrow Fest is so much nicer than larger festivals.  Most people there seem to know each other.  It was a true feeling of comfort to attend this festival.

I photographed the event and tried to capture people having fun.  I did run into resistance with some vendors not wanting me to photograph their booth.  The only reason I could think of is that they're afraid someone might steal their ideas, so I obliged.  It's a shame they felt this way as I think it would of been a nice opportunity for them to show off their wares to more people.

In spite of some vendors not wanting me to photograph their booths, I had a good time photographing the people having a good time.

Photographs of the event are located in my gallery under "Scarecrow Fest 2008."

What I've been up to...

I've slowed down a bit with my photography this summer. But with autumn around the corner I plan on hitting it hard. This is a wonderful area of the U.S. to display the colors of autumn.

After autumn I plan to begin another "coffee table" book of La Porte County. It will be limited in the number of copies, and I'll announce that number when it goes to the publisher. There is one book left of the Winter collection and it's available for $1,000. The autumn book price has yet to be determined.

I'm also planning on a partial website redesign that will be coming soon with a lot of eye-candy.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

Today is Sunday, July 27, the 209th day of 2008. There are 157 days left in the year.

We visited the La Porte County Fair twice this past week. Photos from the fair are posted on my website. I particularly enjoyed the child (14 and under)Draft Horse competition.
